I decided to spend the day alone after too much of everyone and everything. Right outside of Siena and between Florence is one of the last walled cities with 14 remaining towers which once numbered 72. Once exemplifying power and wealth of the cities two medieval families. "Belle Torri" meaning the "Fine Towers", this town had more charm than I had anticipated...The church bells rang with pangs of sadness as the wake of the towns members mourned for the loss of their own. The steps became eerily silent as people stood out of respect and watched the procession follow behind the windy roads and lemon trees.
The view from the old remaining steps overlooking the Tuscan countryside is breathtaking and peaceful. As I sat and did my compiti for the day, I leaned against a blossoming tree and closed my eyes listening to the sound of a non existent clock..
